The document notes that a total of 3.3 million patent applications were filed in the world in 2018, which is higher than the previous year by 5.2% and indicates an increase for the ninth year in a row. In the first place in the ranking of countries with the largest number of patent applications is China, where 1,540,000 patent applications were filed. The second line went to the United States with 597 thousand such applications, and closes the top three Japan with more than 313 thousand applications for registration of patents. Next in the list are South Korea (210 thousand applications), European countries or simply the European patent Agency (174 thousand applications), Germany (almost 68 thousand), India (just over 50 thousand), Russia (almost 38 thousand), Canada (over 36 thousand) and Australia (almost 30 thousand patent applications).
